Typing and Microsoft Word Tests

Typing and Microsoft Word tests are given at the Employment Office, University Human Resource Services, Poplars Building Room E165, 400 East Seventh Street, Bloomington, Indiana. Tests are conducted by appointment, M-F 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., on the hour. Applicants should call (812) 855-2172 or email to schedule an appointment for testing.

If a department determines that typing and/or Microsoft Word tests are required, the position announcement will indicate this. Usually, both the typing and Microsoft Word tests are required. When the Typing and/or Microsoft Word tests are stated as required, applicants who do not have a current assessment on file will not be referred to departments. In exceptional cases, Employment Consultants may refer applicants if they feel that the logistics of the test assessment, such as an applicant’s geographic location, military status, or other circumstances, create an undue hardship for the applicant. In such cases, applicants will be required to take the tests prior to employment.

Applicants desiring to improve their typing test score after the initial test may retake the test one additional time. The highest score will be kept and used.

Applicants may retake the tests after 90 days. Scores do not expire, however, if scores are over one year old, or software packages have been updated, applicants may be asked to retake the tests.
